Spring Trends for Interior Decor

Spring is here! As the snowdrops and daffodils start to creep up towards the sun, now’s a great time to think about giving your property a new lease of life. If you’re thinking of selling your property this spring, you might want to consider making a few of the following small, easy and cost-effective changes to update your decor and make your home stand out from the crowd.

On-Trend Colours

Earlier this year, Dulux announced their Colour of the Year 2015 as being Copper Blush, a lovely, bright, metallic copper with a hint of pink. Meanwhile, the experts at Pantone have decided that the colour of the year is the darker burgundy Marsala. So it looks like we can expect lots of muted reds and warming blushes to make an appearance in living rooms throughout the land.

Wallpaper is Sticking Around

Wallpaper is also set to make a comeback. In the past we’ve seen people pick a bold print and apply it to a feature wall. In 2015 however we can expect to see every wall in a room being papered. Expect a variety of designs: bold, geometric prints and delicate, soothing patterns.

Expert Advice

So how can you take advantages of these new trends without breaking the bank? We asked some interior decor experts.

“Small changes are very easy and inexpensive to make,” says local interior designer Catherine Lepreux of Catherine Lepreux Interiors.

“Cushions can add something new to a tired colour scheme, blinds can help lighten up the room and curtains are your best friend when it comes to adding some elegance to your room.”

Find a colour you like that works well with your existing colour scheme; maybe introduce an on-trend russet to a cream living room or a rich chocolate to duck egg blue bedroom. Then let your imagination go wild! Once you’ve decided on your accent colour you’ll see lots of items that will work well. Maybe you could pick out a few new scatter cushions to place on chairs or the bed, whilst a coloured vase or some high-quality silk flowers would help to tie it all together? Painted picture frames or a brightly coloured rug can also really help to draw the whole room together.

Crafty Changes

If you’re into crafting, now is a great time to get the sewing machine and glue gun out. You can find very easy cushion cover patterns on the internet and gluing some new trim onto an old lampshade will instantly give it a new lease of life.

Be Natural

One of the easiest ways to bring spring into your home is to invite nature in. Seasonal flowers such as daffodils, tulips, crocuses and bluebells are bountiful at the moment. You’ll find them on sale at supermarkets at very affordable prices or, if you have some growing in your garden, you could cut some yourself. Some beautiful, bright flowers placed in a vase before viewers come round is a sure-fire way to liven up any room and welcome the sunnier days!
