As many of you will know, we have recently pledged to help Corstorphine Primary School raise ยฃ5,000 towards creating a brand new playground for the children. We pledged to raise this money in a fun, educational and beneficial way, empowering the children to have the confidence to try new things and explore new ideas. Last week we undertook our first project: The Apprentice.
After creating a learning plan suitable for Primary 6 and Primary 7 classes, Laura and Robert spent a day in the school delivering the project. The aim was for the children to learn about the key principles of sales and marketing, create a product and then sell that product to classmates and parents. The products in this instance were pre-made cupcakes which were supplied by MOV8 Real Estate. The children were then tasked with creating a design to be iced on to the cakes and also to create marketing material to help sell their cakes. These cakes were then sold at the school Nativity play and also to other children in the school.
The children were hugely enthusiastic about the project, offering great ideas and creative solutions. They quickly grasped the concept of marketing and the principles of marketing that we taught them and they made some stunning cakes and posters. Below is an extract from one of the pupilsโ work books –
โI think that our marketing campaign went well because we had good teamwork, everyone contributed ideas and helped (make) the cakes and make the posterโย –ย Eden Young, Primary 7.
The total raised by the project was ยฃ150.28. This money will go directly to Project Play and will take us one step closer to completing the new playground for this wonderful group of children.
Here are some pictures from the day!
